The job of a nutritionist or dietitian is to formulate a diet that is tailored for the individual's specific goals, so yes, an individualized diet plan. I hope you don't go to a nutritionist and they tell you, eat less and exercise more. lol OP, is you're serious, I would go see a nutritionist or dietitian. It takes time for them to create the diet plan for you that's going to meet your daily caloric needs, daily vitamins + mineral needs, and other macro nutrient needs (so they aren't just going to give you a basic 2,00 calorie diet off the internet and say go for it), but also they will provide you one-on-one dietary counseling/education, which is very important for the long haul.
Sorry but I've never understood why anyone would spend money for someone to write (read copied and pasted with food portions altered for the majority of dieticians) them a "specialised" diet when with a little research and question asking, you could put one together yourself that is just as effective. There is no need for it. Laziness I suppose.

Dieting requires no nutritionist unless you're looking to enter a bodybuilding competition or similar where it always helps to have someone guide you when your head is fried, when fat loss stalls and you're on a strict time frame and where water manipulation is important the closer you get to the competition. For the average person wanting to lose weight, do a little reading yourself.

And you and 98% of people feel the exact same way. Trust me, I understand 1000%. The same could be applied to mechanics, accountants, and other professions where most people feel they don't need their services because they can DIY. My good friend has a degree in exercise science. I thought I knew by reading and researching that I had a good workout routine, but he sat my ass down and told me all the physiological imbalances I had in my researched routine. So you could say the same, why would someone pay him to train them or get a workout regimen constructed when they could just research it themselves? Dude, I could make the argument in your case as to why a person who just wants to lose wt doesn't need a nutritionist, or I could type you 10 paragraphs as to why I feel they do. With the dietitians I've worked with, they do not copy and paste diets off the web, so not sure why you would say that or maybe that's your experiences. To each their own man.
