Basically what I mean is needing weights or certain amounts or kinds depends on what you want for your body. Look at the people doing the Insanity workouts. They are cut, high cardio, great shape. On the other side if you look at those who just do power lifting or the guys in the strongest man competitions. Most of those guys certainly don't look fit at all even though they are complete powerhouses.
Yeah I realize that but that's not what I said. I said to make weight lifting gains (strength gains, presumably size as well) you need decent weights or a gym.

I'm fully aware of what can be accomplished with body weight exercises. It's not the same as weight lifting.

Its all good man. I'm quite sure you do know what you are talking about.

The only reason I even mentioned anything about your post was because the OP stated he had no clue about weight lifting at all so he wouldn't know about the different types of weightlifting and no one explained this to him.

A total noob to the sport wouldn't know anything about these different styles of lifting and he needs to decide the path he wants.

    1) cardio lifting for stamina or for just weight loss with high reps-light weights only,
    2) standard weight lifting for strength and fitness and athletic muscle definition
    3) light and little weight use for aerobic training
4)power lifting and training for the full body for body building shows
5)power lifting for massive bulk and muscle size and muscle definition areas
6)And just pure power strength lifting with no muscle definition

Most normal highly experienced weight lifters that want to be cut and also athletic, good muscle definition, with good stamina for any type of sports do a combination of category 1 and 2 from this list I made.
