    Default Protein powder questions.

I heard protein powder helps you gain muscle with a workout.

Is this a good brand and flavor?

    http://www.amazon.com/Optimum-Nutrit...protein+powder

    Is the price good?

    Any better brand?

How long will 5 pounds last?

Should I take it before a workout?

    Thanks in advance!

Generally speaking, it is wise to take a pre and post workout shake. I just take a post workout shake. Decent price, good brand, 5 pounds should last a couple months or more.

Protein powder is the single best way to help gain muscle. Whey Protein is fast absorbing and helps to repair the muscles that are used during workouts. Optimum Nutrition is widely considered the best you can buy. I've used it, along with Syntha-6 and Vitacost brand, and enjoy all of them. ON tends to be a bit more pricey, Syntha tastes the best but has higher calories, while Vitacost is a very quality, mid-range protein.

As for the price, I will send you a PM with a link to get it cheaper.

Ideally, you want to take the Whey Protein within 30 minutes after your workout. This will help the muscles recover quicker and thus reduce the fatigue and soreness you would ordinarily get. For me, 5 lbs lasts about two months.

Syntha6 is not whey protein it is casein, and not optimal for post workout.

I've used super advanced whey protein by body fortress for a few years and It's OK. They sell it at Krogers or Walmart I think. Cost 20 bucks but it's usually marked down to about 16 most of the time. I like strawberry and yeah drink a shake before or after a work out.

Nothing is gonna put on muscle without you working out by the way.

I use plain ole chocolate. I do enjoy vanilla too though. Not a fan of anything strawberry imitation flavoring, so I have never tried it.
