    Default How to: Burning XGD3 games (OLD METHOD, TEDIOUS BUT WORKS)

    So, you wanna burn XGD3s?

    (check if this thread still exists before anything)
    The Easy Way
    (*Explanation 2 seems to be the easiest)

    What You'll Need:

    • Truncate OR XGD3Truncate
    • Growisofs, XboxBurner OR OSx360
    • To follow in order. Step 1 must be done no matter the burning method.

    ==============================
    ===== About XGD3 / Truncation =====
    ==============================

    With the release of XGD3 and the new method of burning backups,
    OSX users have been faced with a problem: None of the available
    apps will allow a burn to start if the .iso is bigger than the
    disc. Step in XGD3Truncate.

    ImgBurn users do not have to worry about this because it handles
    the truncate and re-position of layer break automatically when
    the burn fails. OSX360 and isoBurn do not do this.

    Using this program will truncate your xgd3 backup .iso to the
    correct size and edit the .dvd file with the new LayerBreak.

    ==============================
    ============ Usage =============
    ==============================

    Explanation 1)

    • 1. Place xgd3truncate and your xgd3 iso and dvd file in the same folder.
    • 2. From a new terminal window, change to the directory containing these files.
    • 3. Run the program using the following command:
    • ./xgd3truncate name-of-iso.iso name-of-dvd-file.dvd
    • 4. Press Enter
    • 5. Burn your backup to your favorite DVD+R DL media using the new .dvd file [*at this point read Step 2: Burning w/ OSx360]
    • 6. Enjoy!

    -=> Explanation 2) <=-
    thanks junito91/letsgo

    • Open Terminal
    • chmod(SPACEBAR)+x(SPACEBAR)drag xgd3truncate(PRESS ENTER)
    • chmod(SPACEBAR)+x(SPACEBAR)drag game.iso(PRESS ENTER)
    • drag xgd3truncate drag game.iso paste 8547991552(PRESS ENTER)

    Done, nothing will happen
    Check to see if your .iso is downsized.
    [*at this point read Step 2: Burning w/ OSx360]
    **Make sure you pressed the Spacebar in the necessary places, this is such a simple but effective problem solver.

    Explanation 3)

    thanks WhiteHot

    • Download the Truncate pack.
    • Unpack it and put the Truncate App somewhere on your computer (it doesn't matter where...)
    • Open terminal
    • First drop the Truncate App in the terminal window
    • Then drop the ISO file in the same terminal window
    • Then copy and paste 8547991552 in the same terminal window

    [*at this point read Step 2: Burning w/ OSx360]

    *Alternate, more manual method*

    Step 1: Truncating

    Truncate a XGD3 ISO on OSX:

    In terminal, type:
    Code:
    /opt/local/bin/truncate myXGD3backup.iso 8547991552

    Step 2: Burning

    • Burning w/ OSx360:

    i) In OSx360 "Configuration" uncheck everything except for "Perform Action on File Open" and set to "Go to Burn View"

    ii) Check "Specify Custom Layer Break" type *2086912* *hit return/enter* then close the configuration window

    iii) Before burning set "Speed" to 4X (or 2.4X)" and "Method" to growisofs

    • Burning w/ XboxBurner GUI:

    This is not possible yet as the LayerBreak field is fixed. Will update if/when XboxBurner is updated to support the required offset

    • Burning w/ growisofs using XboxBurner binaries:

    Code:
    /Applications/XBoxBurner.app/Contents/MacOS/dvd+rw-mediainfo /dev/rdisk5
    (use this command to verify which drive is the DVD writer)

    Code:
    /Applications/XBoxBurner.app/Contents/MacOS/growisofs  -use-the-force-luke=dao -use-the-force-luke=break:2086912 -dvd-compat  -speed=4 -Z /dev/rdisk5=myXGD3backup.iso
    (replace rdisk5 with the correct drive number)

    • Burning w/ growisofs (using attached binaries):

    First dump the 3 binaries into /usr/sbin
    Code:
    dvd+rw-mediainfo /dev/rdisk5
    growisofs -use-the-force-luke=dao -use-the-force-luke=break:2086912 -dvd-compat -speed=4 -Z /dev/rdisk5=myXGD3backup.iso
    (again substitute rdisk5 with your DVD's drive number)

    Step 3: PLAY

    There is no difference in burning a game via OSX or Winblows; the file is burnt the same way with the same filesize.

    Direct answer: You are cutting off 1.7% of the game data. You think so?

    C4Evas answer: Yes. LTMax (LT2.0 feature) fills in the missing data, for now...

    Ah well. The original formatting was terrible and it wasn't very clear.

    Agreed. I've been following this method which you posted which is much clearer in opinion.
    Download the Truncate pack.
    Unpack it and put the Truncate App somewhere on your computer (it doesn't matter where...)
    Open terminal
    First drop the Truncate App in the terminal window
    Then drop the ISO file in the same terminal window

    Can you go into more detail with regards to step 1 truncating?
    As I understand it:

    1. type in terminal: /opt/local/bin/truncate myXGD3backup.iso 8547991552

    2. Drop Truncate app in terminal window

    3. Drop iso in same terminal window

    4. Then paste 8547991552

    Then what? Does it create a smaller iso somewhere for burning? Do we still need the .dvd filler?

    Any clarification would be great.

    Thanks
    You don't need to do step one. Just open up Terminal and follow steps 2, 3 and 4. It will automatically shrink the ISO to the appropriate size (8,547,991,552). Then follow the burning tutorial. I don't believe the DVD file is needed as long as the layerbreak is set, but I couldnt/may be wrong.

    If I assisted in anyway, please feel free to +rep me
